there are programs like get data back that can do the job, the problem is that they normally need to be installed and they need 'empty' space - and that empty space can be holding the file(s) you want to recover - so check for a tool that does not require any installation, stop using the computer to prevent further 'writing' to those 'available' spaces on the hard disk, and use the tool to shearch and then undelete the data.

You don't give much info. What program created this data, what was the file type?
Did you look in the Recycle Bin?
If this wasn't too long ago, you might look in YOUR Recent Files folder. This is a system hidden file so you will have to go to Tools / Folder Options and check the box that says: Show Hidden Folders. If it is there, you can try dbl clking it for the program that created it to open - or - drag it to another folder.

Yes, you can. Even if you've deleted it from the trashcan. Please don't store anything in your hard drive, the info you want to recover might be overwritten by new data, so stop that. Now you have to install a data recovery software. I recommend Recover My Files, which you can download from this link http://www.download.com/Recover-My-Files/3000-2248_4-10616861.html
Now just follow the instructions on the help file.
