Because heroes "don't do that".

"Anti-heroes" do. And an Anti-Hero is someone who does heroic things for unheroic reasons (ie revenge, money, ect....).
My favorite example of a "hero" that is willing to, and i qoute: "black a bad guy's eye one that'll make you say "kick his @$$,man,kick his @$$!!!!!!!!" is ShadowHawk from the mid 90s.
Here was a guy who caught violent offenders like murderers, rapists and theives in the act. While they were commiting their crimes. Then he would cripple them, usually by shattering their spine. He confined them to the prison of a broken body even if the law failed to put them in jail. And you know what? the public hated ShadowHawk be case it was too violent, too dark, and too much of a knock off of Batman. (even though ShadowHawk's reasons and character was completely different. He was a black former DA who had been let down by the judicial system and was dying from HIV/ Aids....)

go figure.

There is a reason for good guys not completely beating up the bad guys, it is called moral conduct. try to remember this ok?
"Bullies" & "Baddies" are what? Tyrants, if the good guy poses as a tyrant, he/she will not be concidered a What? "Hero" you will never know for sure who is who. Think about this, X-Men (DarkPhoenix) was she or was she not a Hero? yes she was but after her long stasis she became Terrible, A walking Horror!!!! Killing off everyone. If you want a hero, look at Jet Li the movie Hero is bold beautiful and full of bad guys getting there @$$es kicked from stem to stern yet he remained within his rank as a Hero. Check it out.

It is a sign of the times. Heroes reflect the society they are from.

It is the 2000's home of the castrated male (metaphorically speaking of course).

But look back to the 1940's and 1950's. Heroes killed, often. Shooting at the enemy during World War II with machine guns (even Robin the Boy Wonder did it, even heroes who did not need a gun like Captain Marvel was shown on the cover shooting away).

Dick Tracy mowed them down with a tommy gun and no mercy, no PC, no criminals rights.

But it is coming back. Look at the Punisher. Heck in a recent issue of 52 had the younger member of the Black Adam Family fly through a villain cutting in half and then laid there with the villains intestines around him. And don't get me started on Nextwave, Agents of Hate.

this is a tough question to answer because it involves so many different elements. on the one and, the good guy is, well the good guy, and he sets an example for people around him. if people saw the good guy going postal on every truly sinister villain, the people wouldnt see him as a compassionate protector, more like " u screw up and im going to kill ur punk ***". batman can get away with stuff like that and more simply because of his characters establised persona and he could probably get away with more, but when was the last time u actually saw batman kill a man (besides the joker). also, another reason that the good guys never go completely postal on the bad guys is the fact that the publisers animators and producers, depending on which form of media you are in, have to get whatever product they are making to pass regulations, be it certification or ratings or watever. if there is to much violence in the media, then it will get rejected and edited and the best fight scenes will get toned down. also, having the good guys go all out against the villains presents a callenge to writers as they would either ave to kill a villain off, or create another villain. even bringing another villain from another strip, which takes alot of time and alot of paperwork and risks fans getting upset. along that line, if a real major battle occurs, then that villain will be pretty much out of commission for the whole series recovering from his wounds or whatever or plotting another attack, and its more than the writers want to go thru. so that basically why u never see a good smack fest... if u want to see superman go off tho, u should check out the episode of justice league unlimited with captain marvel. ^_^ tat one was good.

Usually thats a part of the mystique that makes the antagonist so interesting in the first place. The fact that the odds are against the hero is the reason why you have fun at the movies. Indiana Jones wouldn't be as exciting if he was chased by a rabid dog instead of a boulder.

Because they are the good guys.

That's pretty much what differentiates them from the "evil" guys.

Batman already stalks the night and goes after people. If he were to beat them to a bloody pulp, then he would have crossed the line and officially moved into the "bad" guy category.

But I still kinda agree with you. I'd beat their azz.
