Yes, but lets look at what a hero is. Someone who defies all odds for someone or something that is desired. A hero is no longer a knight in shining armor (there was one knight per kingdom) but a man who will do whatever it takes for the sake of someone else. A hero is some one who cares for others more than himself. Thay are just hard to find, because they do not seek to be found.

Well Lidera I'd like to think so but all too often the media label men heroes who are no such thing. Maybe successful. Perhaps even enterprising or risk takers. Just being a sportsman or a soldier does not in itself make one a hero.

There are plenty of unsung heroes too. People going about their daily lives who do not seek the admiration of the masses. We should be grateful for them too.

Is a doctor a hero
Is a firefighter a hero
Is a teacher a hero.
Is a footballer a hero (if he scores 100s, if he misses once)

the word hero tends to be used in the past tense, he was a hero and died for his country. So its a short lived career. I think everyone (m&f) wants to be a hero preferably a live one. Recognition and praise is what a hero receives and its an inbuilt human desire to receive that.

No, that's a shame in a way, all they seem interested in is making money -that's where the glory lies these days. A few could be said to aspire to being heroes, though: firemen, paramedics...
The real heroes are often the unsung ones, so no-one's interested in that...

You can try to be a hero but its a term that says nothing about what someone is and only how they're perceived.

I tried and gave up. Some people don't deserve a hero.

No, I gave up last week. Its too much like hard work these days. Flying, getting blow up, shot at and for what, £25,000 a year and pension. You people want us to be everywhere at the same time last week I saved 16 people from a roof top in London, two minute later I had to be in New York to wrestle with a tiger who had escaped, but you lot still were not happy. As for the company car, less said the better.

Only with gullible females, and only when drunk. No more heroes, they all became poseurs, got ear-rings, S A S tattoos, and became overweight - sorry. Have you tried the Superman comics, should find one in there!
