Hi!

I think the physical pain you suffer, can make you certain that you are going to die.

Even if you can't actually die from a broken heart - I think the pain that you feel can incapacitate you so much as to bring on other conditions that could contribute to you becoming quite ill - and you could ultimately die from those.

I know for a fact that in some old people, if they lose their husband/wife - especially if they have been together for a very long time - then they simply lose the will to live, and die very soon after their partner's death.

I suppose you could say that's dying from a broken heart.

Ive heard of two cases where two couples in NC had been together for 50+ years and one spose died and the other shorty after. One case the wife had a heart attack & the very next morning the husband died in his sleep, like as if the didnt want to spend one day apart. It was so beautiful they were buried side by side and had a double funeral. Personal I only hope to be blessed like that in death too. I'd say yes there is such a thing of dying of a broken heart.

Yes I believe so. When I was nursing some years ago, a patient was admitted in a catatonic state (like a severe trance). He had been a parish vicar and when his wife of over 50 years died he lost his faith in a God who could take his beloved away, so breaking his heart. So he turned his face to the wall and just faded away, having lost the will to live and died in less than three weeks, inspite of being fed and cared for.

Yes it is possible. My great grandfather die of a broken heart this was about 12 years ago. He was married to my great grandmother for 76 years...he was perfectly healthy and he died 9 months after her to the day. He missed her so much it killed him.

I think that the true factor in this would be long-term depression without treatment. Falling into a deep, untreated depression may cause overall feelings of sadness, sickness, and a desire to not go on. Without a will to live, many people may cognitively "think" their way to death by extreme sadness. More likely than that, they would probably commit suicide.

If you or someone you know is suffering from a broken heart, and has shown no positive feelings for a substantial amount of time...depression may have already set in. Please get help for yourself or for your loved one immediately. While it may not seem that things will get better, they will.

I think people that have spent a lifetime together can give up if they lose their loved one and die from a broken heart and i think when your hurting because you love someone it can feel like your going to die of a broken heart, but you don't,it kinda heals

Well I can remember the pain I felt in my heart when my beloved Mum left us. It is the nearest I have ever felt to dying of a broken heart.

But with time, the heart is healed, if only a little bit.

People have been known (on rare occasion) to allow a broken heart to lead them to a depression in which they lose the will to live and eventually waste away and die...more common in days of old, and a complete waste of life.

Hearts are very resilient and will heal if we let them...anyone who is so blue over a broken heart gave too much of themselves to the other person and invested too much of their happiness in that person or the relationship itself...that's just not healthy or a good idea...

I've known lots of people who commit suicide from being heart broken. it's so fool to think doing that but it's sad as well on the other hand cause they are not strong enough to handle their feelings that they just give up their lives. when i was heart broken befor i never think to commit any suicide instead i learn from that tragedy and makes me feel strong for the next time. wish you are strong enough!!!

The physical heart, if it breaks down can cause the death of its owner. But the figurative heart can heal in time, although the scars may still show.
