Well, I just gave you a thumbs up for your question. I also gave your first answerer (forgot their name already) a thumbs up for his/her answer. I, or anybody else who feels like it can give a thumbs up (for which you get 1 point, I think) or a thumbs down (for which you lose 1 point, I think). That is a way of rating the question & the answer. I believe I will be getting 2 points for answering your question. I think you lose a few points for each question you ask.

If you (as the questioner) can't decide which one is the best answer, you may let the answer go into voting in which case anybody may vote. Any time you vote, you get points.

But the thumbs up and thumbs down thing is really just a way to rate a question or an answer. Thumbs up, you gain points. Thumbs down, you lose points.

Ok, I screwed up, Broken Hearted Sweetie said you don't get points or lose points for ratings. I am all confused.

It's merely another way for people to express their opinions. There are no points given or taken away for this feature with one exception at this point.

If an answer is chosen as 'best' then there is a point given for every thumb's up on that particular answer. Three thumb's ups equals three points in addition to the ten....and the max. points for thumb's up is something like 50 on any given answer.

You do get one point for every thumbs up (max of 50) if your answer is chosen as the best answer.

Thumbs down makes it easier to avoid people whose answers you don't like. LOL

Just something else you can offer an opinion. I gave you a thumbs down because you were getting only thumbs up.

Thumps....that is funny right there, I don't care who you are. Thumbs up to that. Good stuff.

Don't you mean thumbs? Thumbs up means ok, good job, spot on and probably a few more. Thumbs down is the opposite...You suck, not good, no way...and other connotations. Take your pick.

It's to make people with already low self esteem feel even worse about themselves. I wonder how many familes are going to sue Yahoo over the suicides.

It's to let you know how you rate among the masses. I wish we got points for rating, I think a lot more people would do it.

You don't get points, but Thumbs up means, to me, that they are good answers, and Thumbs down means they are not so good. :)
