I recently ran a virus scan and spyware scan. the virus scan came up okay and the spyware scan cleaned up a few cookies

More ram, if the computer is less then 4 years old get to, or better yet, above 500 mb.

I don't see what the big problem is. You DID run a virus scan and the spyware scan. Oh, and email me about how you did that. My computer's been having problems lately.

well if you're sure about your virus and spyware scan run a Defrag which is in your system tools, it maybe something wrong with your hard drive itself, also check your RAM maybe u should add some more

Even when it's idle on the desktop, Windows and your Anti-virus will be doing stuff in the background, which will cause the hard drive activity light to flash. As long as there's no scratching noises, it's perfectly alright.

Some drive problems can be easily fixed by yourself using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful. Try this site, if you can get what is required
