Saddam had been consistent with his words since the interview with Dan Rather when Saddam told him that Iraq is not American's enemy. The Bush wanted war and they needed an excuse to got to war. The only way to do that was to hype up something when everything happened in Iraq was Saddam's way of controlling chaos! The chaos now which we can't control! Even in his deathbed, Saddam is still saying don't hate the Americans but resist the invaders! Saddam didn't have to be our enemy but Bush made him into one for going to War reasons.

You always paint the most evil picture of your enemy.
You must, to get your population behind you, as
you will need their support, their money, and their blood.

SINCE 1958 or so Saddam has been work with and directed by the Various agencies that wished to use his particular talent for killing others with out remorse or the desire to stop in an effort to further the expansion of capitalist ideals .That is to secure ; the resources of raw materials, processed materials , manufacture of products distribution of products ,and secure a work force able to process and handle such materials and goods to the desired stage of production enabling the individual or corporation to profit from said capitalist venture .From the sale and transport of oil back to the days of blowing up roads and destroying oil rigs of Iraqi's we had no control or deals with . To terror cells to disrupt other nations in the region . Slowing transportation or cutting off supplies need to operate effectively .
He had proved useful for more then forty five years and was at the point he no longer would follow instructions so he needed to be eliminated in a public manner so other leaders we control will remain at the ready willing to take orders . He is no more evil then Standard oil . Just an employee with out a golden Parachute .
He always thought the time would come when he could do what he wanted . What a fool .

You have got to be one of the most gullible people I've ever ran across. I got my information about Saddam from Iraqi's and Soldiers and Politicians who have actually been to Iraq. You honestly think Dan Rather is a stand up guy with no agenda? I have a swamp I would like to sell you.

Saddam Hussein was a very evil man. Where were you during the Nineties? Were you just born then? Iraqis will tell you firsthand just how cruel this man was.

You cannot rely on Dan Rather's sterling reputation as an unbiased reporter any longer. Dan Rather is also a very bad man. Where were you during the 2004 elections???

Wow!! You are really naive.

I agree, we all know Saddam was capable of a lot of evil doings, but most of that happened in the 80's. Why was he not arrested way back then and taken to trial? How does it look to know that someone did something terribly wrong, know where he is and how to get to him, but do absolutely nothing for more than 20 years and THEN arrest him?

Sad, that in the information age, you have no grasp on what a fact is. Google Saddam vs the Kurds. That went down long before Bush took office.
Really, you ought to read something before you shoot your mouth off. When you grow up, if you talk to people like this they won't hire you.

Saddam was a brutal man who deserves to be executed. If the ONLY way to keep a country together is to slaughter hundreds of thousands of innocent people then the country really doesn't need to exist. The U.S. is trying o get the people of Iraq to come together WILLINGLY to keep the country together. That's a fairly new concept to them and its going to take time to work it out if they can at all.

I do beleive the media makes everything look bad... HOWEVER, I do not think this is the case with Saddam. He has been tried and found guilty of his crimes... so, no - I do not think anyone has made him sound more evil - he has done his crime, now he has to do his time or whatever is coming to him.

The politest word I can think of, to describe your diatribe: delusional.
If you could give a lie detector test to every Iraqi citizen, you will find that most of them want to pull the lever that drops him through the gallows floor.
The coalition forces put the clamps on him before, repeat before, he got to be as bad as Hitler and Stalin.

Why don't you ask the 180,000 that he had nerve gassed?

Or the thousands who were hung on meat hooks by their skin and beaten to death.

Or the countless women who were raped on the streets by death squads in plain view of their families.

If you could ask them they might be able to give you a better answer than I can.

And yes, I was there for Desert Storm.
