Pro,con or fence should women decide wheither abortion should be a choice? If so could America finally shut up and let it alone for what ever they decide was legal?

Although I respect a woman's choice to keep or terminate the pregnancy, I wish there were some middle ground that could allow the father a say so. Unfortunately, if he wants to keep, she still has to be the one to carry it, so I doubt it would happen.

But no, I don't think anyone should legislate it either way. It should be a medical procedure with no law indicating legality.

Scenario: A married couple becomes pregnant. The husband has always wanted a child but the wife is a career woman and feels that this would impede on her duties at the office. The husband says that this is very selfish of her and that she would make an excellent mother. The wife says that she has never had any intention of having children and that it would ruin her figure as well as their marriage. The husband is a devout Christian and believes that an abortion is murder and feels that this child is a gift from God. The wife believes none of it and says that it is not even human yet so it couldn't possibly be murder. The husband realizes that they are getting on in age and that this may be their only chance to complete their family.

Who is right?

Personally, I feel that a man should have a say. It is a very hypocritical system. A woman can decide to keep a child that the man did not want and make him pay child support for the next 18 years. But a man has no vote in keeping a child that the woman does not want. Until man can conceive, I feel this will be the way of the world (or at least, America).

Ultimately the woman should make the decision as it is her body (if early on in the pregnancy), but the father should have a say in the matter. If he opposes however the abortion should not happen and the woman should be free of all parental duties and rights.

I don't believe United Statesians should 'shut up' one way or another.

Abortion still IS a choice. It is a right, and should not be taken away. It should only be up to a woman to have the procedure done. If she decides to tell the father or not, thats her choice as well. I believe that if a woman is in a relationship with a man, than she should tell the father and see how he feels wether he wants the baby or not. At least take his feelings into consideration, if you feel so inclined. Ultimately though, it comes down to the woman. It's her body, her reproductive system and her right to choose.

97% of women in committed relationships talk to their partner beforehand. Sandr Day O Connor used this statistic when determining whether a woman needs to notify her husband prior to the decision. The other 3% is speculated to be women who fear their husbands, or are in abusive relationships. Since the bill proposed to the Supreme Court didn't allow a provision for these 3% whose health may be in danger, the Supreme Court rejected it. It will pass if there is a clause for theprotection of women. Funny, it hasn't been reintroduced with that provision...I guess the statistic was proof enough that women DO discuss their options with their husbands.

I'd say no. I'm also curious why, when a woman has an abortion it's legal, but if someone kills a pregnant woman, they get charged with 2 counts of murder. Either it is or it isn't but shouldn't be both.

Absolutely not. Last time I checked you needed a man to provide the sperm to start the process of pregnancy. He has just as much right to decide whether an abortion should take place. Also, abortion is murder, so whoever decides to have one faces a much greater problem when they die.

there should be some exceptions for abortion but women who made the choice to be unsafe should have to cope with it...unless they are under 17...i think. abortion should be an option for girls who have been r@ped or etc.

Yeah, they should. Until everyone else has to carry around a bunch of extra pounds and be incredibly uncomfortable for 9 months, it should only be a woman's choice.

Yes. No one other than the woman who chooses to have the abortion, has any right to say otherwise
