The easiest way to travel is by train, (86kms). There are frequent departures (often every ten minutes or less) and the duration is rarely much more than an hour.

Take the train, it's only a couple of hours. But aside from the tower, Pisa is an overpriced tourist trap. Florence, on the other hand, is lovely. I'd advise staying in Florence and just doing Pisa as a day trip.

Like Rob B says, it's not all that far. Florence is actually served by Pisa airport (though there's a small airport in Florence too). There's also a good rail service between the two cities

I'm not sure exactly how far it is but it's only a couple of hours drive. I went on holiday there in the summer and we flew into Pisa and drove to Florence by hire car. It's just along the motorway ... surprisingly easy.
