America has a register that they can access but in England we are not allowed a paedophile register that can be accessed by the public should we be allowed to know if that new neighbour is one or if one is in the area?

Yes of course you should, so should ireland. How can we protect chldren if we do not know the enemy. Dont tell me the paedophiles are at risk, if you put your hand in the fire you get burned so if you participate in criminal activities that endanger children you should also take the risk you may be punished.

This is a tricky one.

My own view is that if someone is on the Sex Offenders Register and they fail to keep to the terms of their registration (e.g. reporting to the Police regularly) their details should immediately be made public.

I have a bit of a problem with just making it all public. That way offenders have no reason to stay in touch with the authorities - they are much better off just "disappearing".

And when they do that they are much more dangerous.

But I do see that this is a difficult area, and I am open to other people's views on it.

The important thing always is how we best protect children and women from predators.

EDIT: I also think that if someone has three convictions for sex offences or violent offences they should automatically get a life sentence.

It would only add to the safety of the children and the community as a whole. I do not see what harm it could bring. Some against the registry say that it would take away the privacy of those people that committed the crime. In response to that, I, aw well as many others, believe that this would be a part of their punishment for committing the crime. Overall, it seems like the best thing for the community.

defo! i am training to be a social worker ( i know crazy!!! but sum1 has to!) and 90% of my class think it would help both society and us as social workers. We were just talking about this the other day as there was a prog on by trev macdonald were they tracked down paedophiles, and all they could say was that it was entrapment, well they should not be doing it!!!

I will say though it would affect the paedophiles family, as unfortunately they themselves are not the paedophiles.

And also the mob mentality may make people commit crime ie murder gbh and may affect them and there family.

but i do think there is a need!

Yes definitely .. i am tired about hearing of the criminals rights etc , they lost their rights when they broke the law in a despicable way ... children deserve the right to be safe and only our voices can see to that ..

Yes. Furthermore they should be castrated and branded across the forehead with the letters PDFL. I think branding should apply to all criminals, e.g. RPST, BRGLR, MRDRR, etc.
