Well if you're in an accident with another vehicle, get their insurance information and phone number, get the person's name and their lisence number too--plate #.
You generally call the cops, so 911, and if everything is ok they'll tell you to just swap insurances and information and--if the cars are drivable to have a nice day. If a car isn't drivable they'll send the cops out and probably the whole deal what with the fire truck and an ambulance, tow truck, etc...
As far as other things to "look" for? I don't know. Maybe if it was just you in an accident--was there something on the road? Did a deer or bear or some other big animal jump out on the road? Was there an icey patch, water on the road, or possibly the road itself was faulty--big pothole for example.

Make sure no one is hurt, and if you are in a place where other cars can't see your accident, tell someone to warn the oncoming traffic that there was a car accident.

make sure you get the other car's insurance info, and you should wait for the police to get that police report... look for damage to your car and make sure you are ok, you should always go to teh hospital and get x-rays done, cause u never kno. and if you need to file suit... i kno a great lawyer
