Several months ago I talked with an elderly Iraqi gentleman who is an American citizen, and he said that Iraqis cannot handle democracy. They only behave under a dictatorship. This goes for most of the countries of the Middle East---not every culture hs matured to the point of being able to accept the responsibilities that a democracy demands. Presidents of the United States do not seem to understand this because they try to ram democracy down the throats of every non-democratic nation they set eyes on. Iraq is a perfect example of what happens to a country where the people are prepared to govern themselves.

because those areas have too much conflict between them. a democracy simply wont work. we like to think it would, but it wont. people in Israel basically believe the same thing. the rest of the middle east do not. each group has a different view on who is the rightful descendant of muhammad. so they wont accept democracy because nothing would ever get accomplished

Maybe it's not so much democracy that they resist but the 'Americanization' of their culture. Maybe they don't want capitalism to over-rule their religion. Maybe they don't want starbucks on every corner. They are allowed to be traditional. I just think they're praying to the wrong God.

because believe it or not, some people are happy living just the way they are! how would you like it if saudi arabia invaded you, deposed bush and told you that you had to live under a king? thats basically what we're doing in iraq!
