Hi:

Metal is the best material for tracks, second best :any hardwood wood, third best: plastic; least best is paper( glued cardboard)

for the trains: any metal ,wood or plastic with metal wheels will do you, Fiberglass casting is good too. however use clear plastic for any windows unless very small than glass will do , paper casting with wooden or metal wheels is the least best. But trail and error will tell you more than anything else

maybe a bamboo based or something with that streghnth but bendable or look into what woods are bent to make skate boards....they seem to bend well?
