Foe the last 2 nights, my daughter refuses to sleep. Shes on the same routine shes been on for awhile, but now shes waking up every half an hour and screaming her head off. She also WILL NOT nap during the day, maybe 10 minutes the whole day she will sleep. Shes so tired, exhausted, red rimmed eyes, black circles, shes starting to freak out over everything and all she does is cry. She'll lay down on me and start to fall asleep, then she'll jerk herself back awake almost as if shes afraid to let herself sleep. If it was because she was afraid she'd miss something thats going on, Id understand, but shes just not sleeping, period. I havent slept in a few nights and I think Im going to go insane with her soon! Any help at all, or should I just take her to the doctor? And if I do, what can they do to help her there?

I think that you should take her to the doctor... at around that age it's normal for sleep patterns to change because of teething and a few other factors but that seems kind of extreme to me. She may have a really bad ear infection that hurts when she's laying down. If nothing else, the doctor will be able to tell you what to do to make her more comfortable.

I really want to encourage you to take her in soon... when my neice was 2 months old she wasn't sleeping at all and my sister took her into the hospital and it turned out that she had some kind of birth defect and was having seizures... it's something that I guess is common in preemie twins but if she hadn't been taken in she could've had severe brain damage and even died. I don't want to scare you because I doubt that your daughter is suffering from anything similar, but I do want you to realize how serious this could be. Good luck

Doctor is best option.

If you hadn't described her jerking out of sleep, I would be lost. It sounds like she is haveing Nightmares. I know there are plenty of people that don't believe their children are Sentient beings until they rebel at some point in Elementary school these days,.. but,.. Yes, she can have Nightmares.

The only way to avoid them is to stay awake. Until some day your too weak to wake up.

Anyways, try the doctor. Also see if she can calm down when certain people will stay in the same room as her only leaveing for restroom breaks for several hours straight. That sounds annoying but maybe there is some seperation problems going on there.

You could try getting a slightly warm or specially insolated blanket, sheet,.. pile of faberic for warmth, comfort,.. and the feeling like she is in a human's protection. Something that buzzes or vibrates lightly because for some people, animals, children,.. etc,.. that relaxes and makes them pass out.

Things like Car Rides put me to sleep. Some parents find out with their baby that a good quiet ( but not silent) car ride puts them to sleep.

Is it possible she has an ear infection? Babies with ear infections don't like to be lying down and will, most often, wake up crying uncontrolably. When she falls asleep on you, is she upright? Have you tried putting her to sleep in a swing or car seat? Anything upright might help if it is, indeed, an ear infection. If it lasts too much longer, I would definitely give the doctor a call. Just my two cents...

Sounds like an ear infection! my son's had two of them. and he's 19 months. He would wake up every half hour to an hour. laying flat builds up the pressure in there ear and is pretty uncomfortable in fact it's down right painful get her to the doctor right away. antibiotics and Motrin will have her feeling better in 48-72 hours. until you can get her in give her Motrin every six hours and try and put something under her back when she sleeps so she's at an incline that will help with the pressure in the ears.

She could be teething and feeling very uncomfortable. She's also at the stage where she's discovered a lot of new things and wants to practice them constantly.

But more importantly; does she have a fever, is she pulling at her ears, does she have a rash? She could possibly have a sinus infection, especially if you notice she does this everytime she lies flat.

If it's teething, you can try to baby oragel or a little tylenol to help with the discomfort. My daughter and niece are going through the same phase now. They are both teething.

Went through something similar back when my son was that age, but it only happened at night. He did it for couple weeks if I remember right. And then went back to sleeping like he should. But in your case, she's not even sleeping good during the day....I'd contact the doctor. Could even be something as simple as a formula change.

My baby does that too. In the day time just hold her tight in your arms so she can relax and she'll end up falling a sleep you'll see. But you should call you doctor and consult. Also try giving her a bath that help a lot. GOOD LUCK

Have you ran your finger across her gums to see if she is teething? Every child reacts different to it, my sons ,it never phased them,my daughter stayed up all night crying. If you see or feel teeth coming in a simple swipe of baby orajel could do the trick. If that isnt it,she could have an ear infection and you should see your pediatrician right away.

I would take her to the doctor, it may be an ear infection and the pressure is worst when she lays down. It could also be teething. Or worst yet, both.

If she is teething try teething tablets made by either Hylands or Little Teethers (makers of Little Noses) they saved my sanity with my son.

Good Luck!!
