By man I mean husband or boyfriend. Also, ladies how much will your husband let you spend without getting his permission first?

Approval, lol! I make more money than my boyfriend. I spend what I want. As long as the bills are paid, why should I get permission to spend my own money that I earned?

And on the flip side, he certainly doesn't need to come asking me how much he can spend. If his lights get turned off because he spent his bill money at the pool hall, he knows better than to whine to me about it. His money, his choice, just like my money, my choice.

One of the perks of being an adult is being trusted to spend money wisely. Any man who forces his wife to ask permission for money to buy things like groceries, toiletries, or pay bills is relegating her to child status. I cannot imagine being married to a man who thought I was too irresponsable/stupid to manage money to cover everyday expenses.

The point is not to limit the spending amounts of your husband/boyfriend or girlfriend/wife but to find out what both of you want and efficiently work it into a budget. I would let my boyfriend spend anything that he wants within reason that would not keep us from not being able to eat the next week. I really don't want him to go off and buy a new car without my permission though, thats just wrong. I think he will let me spend anything under $500...although I never have spent that amount in one trip. Its about negotiation.

I am not allowed to spend over $40 without consulting my husband. He usually talks to me before he spends money as well, but he doesn't have to. I am a stay at home wife. He totally supports us except for the little bit I make off of my books (but I'm not allowed to spend that either without permission). As the head of our household, he has the right to tell me how much I'm allowed to spend if any.

What? I don't know where you got this question from, but my husband lets me spend whatever amount I want. You mean there are really men out there that put a limit on womans spending? I never heard of such a thing. Wow, that is sad.

It's not the amount of money either of us spend, we can do that freely. It's what she might spend it on though. If I ever come home to find we have a mortgage, a wedding dress, a pair of matching gold rings or a bag of baby clothes.. Well, I'd draw the line there.

The same amount the husband or boyfriend can spend without consulting his wife.

It depends on the couples' finances. If they don't live together one has no say in how the other one spends his/her money. If they do, then they should establish those groundrules up front, especially if they share a bank account. But I would not spend more than $100 on something that was not a necessary household expense without consulting my mate.

I don't have to get PERMISSION from my hubby for anything. If I am planning on spending a lot of money I discuss it with him first, out of respect for him. The final decision is always mine, however. No man should be allowed to 'give permission' to his wife or girlfriend for anything. She is your partner, not your child or possession!

If its her self earned money- well go for it. I always discuss bigger amounts just to make sure Im making a good investment or if its out of our mutual budget because you always have to do that- but really, you should be able to trust the other person to be a brain about their money without making up rules.

If it`s the woman`s money, shouldn`t she be able to spend it however she pleases, and however much she pleases?
I understand that if it`s husband and wife, it should be discussed before they go out and spend money; but if you`re girlfriend and boyfriend, then you should be able to spend your money however you want.
