I can not find anything out here that pays enough to support myself with benefits. I wil be out of unemployment soon, & than what ? I decided that perhaps I would go back to calif where I lived over 10 years ago & find work. I tried to get my apartment complex to let me out of my lease, but they wont. I have lived here for 9 years, been physically attacked by another tenant, & I let it go, I moved all the people who needed help when the apts had a fire, with my gas, my truck,my time off work. Recently a maintenance at the request of another TENANT, let her in without my permission, I discovered medicine missing I cant afford becasue I have no insurance. last year i transfered from upstairs to down, I was suposto move Feb 1,06, but the managers kept putting it off cause the apt wasnt ready, so my lease says move in date Feb28, they will not give me a break. I put in a 30 day notice to be out Jan 31, but need the rent money to move, I tried to do right thing. What would u do ?

Have you tried getting someone to take over your lease or subletting? Have you asked your landlord about finding a tennant to take over your lease? I would start with this first. If you really must move, then you have no alternative but to just move and break your lease. I have had rental property and the only thing we do is go to court and get a judgement, but the judgement is usually never enforced because the people have no money for us to collect. A judgement is not always entered on your credit report, depends on the landlord, etc. We mainly use it for a paper trail and tax purposes, i.e. accounting.

If the management can't show you any compassion after 9 years of paying rent then you don't owe them anything. Especially if it is going to screw up your credit no matter what you do. I say, don't pay the rent. Keep your money in your pocket. Make them forceably remove you (make them take you to court). It is illegal for them to change your locks until you go to court. Anyway, go ahead an move out or find another place but don't pay rent. Time to think about yourself now. You will have aproximately 2 weeks to move. You get 3 days before the eviction notice, then they have to file in court and that could take another 5 days, then it could take another 7 - 11 days before you have to appear in court. (They would file on the first Monday after non payment of rent 01/08/07. The actual court date would be the week of the 15th).

If you can't make it back to CA try TX. You can always find a job here if you're will to work!
