Volume is way/way/way different. 1 kg of water is (1000 g) /(18 g/mol) = 55.6 moles of water vapor which would be (55.6 moles) (22.4 liters/mole) = 1244 liters of water vapor! An increase of over a thousand-fold.

well the mass will be the same, it's the volume that will be different.
