Doctor's figure out a due date based on a 28 day cycle, since that is the average lenght of a cycle. It may be off by a few days for a lot of women, but a few days doesn't make a difference. They ask you when your last period was, and calculate 40 weeks from that.

well if you have a normal 28 day cycle:
for example if your last period was Nov. 2nd and you have a 28/29 day cycle then you would concieve on the 16 or 17th. If your cycle is regular then it's usually give or take 24 hours.

They generally say mid cycle, which is usually 14 days after the first day of a period.
