I watched this great programme again yesterday. It made me realise, again, that we lost a treasure in John Thaw. But also made me wonder what the little boy who played William is up to. Does anybody know anything about him and whether he still acts or even how old he is now?

I loved this so much when it came on that my mum bought me it on DVD. The best place to check is the internet movie database. I think he's been in a few TV show episodes here and there.

I loved this so much as soon as it was out on video I had to buy it and ever time I cry my eyes out. Wonderfull script and wonderfull acting John Thaw at one of his best and sadly missed. The book is also the best read ever but as for the boy sorry I do not know but I am sure someone will. Just wanted to reply to question not for points just for subject.

Don't know where he is now but I have to recommend the book, its brilliant! I read it in school and thought it would be really boring but it was really interesting and shows the emotions a small boy can go through in the War Effort, even after his Mammy died.
