The blades came with a pathetic "illustration" to demonstrate how to install, and I've gotten as far as the proper positioning. Hoever, I can't seem to "lock" them into place. What gives?

My wife's cousin had the same problem. The Anco blade would not click into the j-hook until the locking tab was depressed (not pulled out) which did then allow locking in place. Once you see how to do it, you will always know.

Anco Wiper Blades Installation

You probably haven't pulled against the hook hard enough. It doesn't take superhuman strength (don't want you to break it), however, you should pull until you hear a click.
If that doesn't work, look for a little tab at the back of the wiper (open end of the hook), and try to push it down to lock the wiper in place.
Good luck.

Don't forget to check the Anco packaging for a J-hook adapter. On certain models (i.e. Dodge Durango), you will need to remove the plastic sleeve and replace it with the longer one.

Goodyear 26 inch bought from Costco would not snap in. Even when I tried a second one from exchange. Bought RainX and it snapped right in!
