Without technical formulas, you can see that each gap is 6 (7-1, 13-7), while the total gap is 49-1=48.

48/6 = 8, so there are 8 gaps.
That means there are 8 terms after the first one, making 9 altogether.

nth term is 1st term plus (n-1) times common difference, so

49 = 1 + (n-1)6
48 = 6n - 6
54 = 6n
9 = n
