I had to have some emergency car repairs and wrote a check but then couldn't honor it. It was turned over to an aggressive collection agency who said they would only take the full payment via Western Union. They have threatened to send law enforcement to my job and arrest me. Can they really go that far?

I hate to tell you this but writing checks without funds is called fraud. You can go to jail for it. I know a lady who accepted a bad check and is currently spending her 3 year in jail because the courts decided she knew the check was bad when she cashed it. The person who wrote that check is spending 7 years in jail. Most places will work with you if you talk to them and are honest. If you are making payments to them they cannot arrest you I'm pretty sure. Even if the payments are $20 a month. If you are paying them they can't touch you.

YES!!! i know a person who was arrested for writing a $75 check at publix! You'd better pay it because in the end you'll be paying returned check fees, court fees, bail, and you'll still have to pay back the money!

yes you can. You get a citation. I work at a Police Dept and our fine is 285.00 pluse the orginal check amount any fees incured. Matter of fact, we just arrested someone for not paying his....5000.00. You have to pay it or you go to jail. Now, if you bounce a check and go to the store right away, usually you won't be fined by the police.

Yes they can. If they write a bad check for $20 it's wrong. It's a felony and they can be sent to prision for it!

Yeap, thay can! But, if you are paying on it (even 10 bucks a month), that shows good faith effort. The fact that you knowingly wrote it bad, though will work against you big time....

Yes indeed they can, and I believe the $500 amount classifies it as a felony.

No they cant, but by law they can say anything they want to get the money back, and you have the right to tell them to never call or bother you again, and they are not allowed to. They can and will mess up your credit rating.
