I'm not really superstitous but I believe when you move you have to put your cat/cats into the house through the windows to assure they'll never run away, a dog eating grass means rains coming, meeting a dog is good luck, a dog growling three times means a death has occured, white horses bring ill fortune,
changing a horse's name is bad luck, seeing a bat in a church during a wedding means bad omens will come, bats flieing in the early morning means good weather, naming a bear provokes attack,If a bee enters your home, it's a sign that you will soon have a visitor ,if you kill the bee, you will have bad luck, or the visitor will be unpleasant, a beetle walking over someones shoe means ill omen, a white bird fortells death, two blackbirds sitting together is a good omen, a kitten born in May is a witches cat,
A black cat seen from behind - a bad omen
Stray tortoise shell cat - bad omen
Cats bought with money will never be good mousers
Cat sneezing once - rain
Cat sneezing three times - the family will catch a cold
USA belief - A cat washing on the doorstep - the clergy will visit
Killing a cat - sacrificing your soul to the Devil
Kicking a cat - Rheumatism
A cat sneezing is a good omen for everyone who hears it .
It is bad luck to see a white cat at night
Dreaming of white cat means good luck
When you see a one-eyed cat, spit on your thumb, stamp it in the palm of your hand, and make a wish. The wish will come true.
If a cat washes behind its ears, it will rain.
A cat sleeping with all four paws tucked under means cold weather ahead. To kill a cat brings seventeen years of bad luck.
If cats desert a house, illness will always reign there.
When the pupil of a cat's eye broadens, there will be rain.
You'll 'cut off' fortune if you use scissors on new years day
Nails should be bitten, not cut, for the same time, for that would make them thieves. If you want to see a friend again, then don't ever say goodbye to them on a bridge.
Never take a broom with you when moving house - buy a new one.
If you see a chimney sweep then shake his hand so that some of his good luck rubs off onto you.
Seeing a single crow is very unlucky. But 2 mean good luck! 3 means health, 4 means wealth, 5 is sickness & 6 mean death!
If your ear is burning, then someone is talking about you. To determine whether what they are saying is good or bad, remember this rhyme, - Left for love, Right for spite!
If the palm of your right hand is itchy, then it foretells that money is coming to you, but don’t scratch it as that stops the money from coming! If it’s your left palm that is itchy, then scratch away, as that means that you'll soon be paying out money
If you see a magpie, remember this rhyme - One for sorrow, Two for joy, Three for a girl, Four for a boy, Five for silver, Six for gold, Seven for a secret, Never to be told.
How you start the year is how you will end it, so you must ensure that you are wearing new clothes & looking your best, have paid off all your debts & are with your partner (to ensure that you are still with them at the next New year). Also you must open
Dropping a pair of scissors is said to warn that a lover is unfaithful.
Never place shoes on a table as it means bad luck for the remainder of the day. And I believe in so much more.

Ok, I guess that means I'm a little bit superstitious,
but,
sometimes I don't follow them. All.....

1 superstition my mom has and has had forever is that when you move from one place to another it is bad luck to move the broom with you. My mom only ever moved 1 broom (it was new) and she wrecked dad's truck the same day, got hurt at work the same week and dad got laid off the next week. So my mom called Grandma and asked her how to get rid of the bad luck of moving a broom?? My grandma wasn't sure and told my mom to call some psychic or something, anyway what happened is my mom went out into the back yard with the broom, dumped charcoal starter fluid on it and burned the broom. the worst thing was we didn't have a fenced in yard and all the neighborhood kids were outside playing games and they seen my mom burning the broom and went to school the next day and told everyone that my mom was a witch and that her broom wasn't obeying her and she burned the bad broom in the backyard. It was horrible (we lived in a small town) and everyone made fun of me and my brother and sisters and spread rumors that my mom was a witch. I have never moved a broom (I'm not taking any chances).

I have really bad luck starting a week after thanksgiving till two weeks after the new year.

If I get sick, that's when it will happen,(the only time I got pneumonia) I only seam to have car problems then, (one year someone total it when it was parked of the side or the road.)
Need to go to the hospital. (the only time I broke any bones).
Seams like every four years I have to move.

Now around Halloween I have really good luck. One year I won four raffles, I filled up the refrigerator.
Another year I won over $8k on blackjack starting with $200, It took four weeks.
Other years I slide of the road in heavy traffic and landed pointing the other direction on the service road, with no ill effects.

So now I make sure I don't gamble, make sure the car is tuned up, every bill is paid before Dec1. I generally hide out the best I can.

If a black cat crosses your path go the other way - something in front of you will cause you harm. If a black cat crosses your path on All Hallows eve you will have good luck.

Never walk under an open ladder it will cause a project you are working on to fail.

If you see a lone crow at dawn a message will follow if you see one at night love is on the way.

If you see a penny pick it up - all the day you'll have good luck - see a penny leave it lay and you'll have a terrible day.

If a bride slips a penny in her shoe her groom will always be true.

Just some tales I heard in school - put as much stock in them as you care too.

All these were told to me by different family members.
Never sit a baby on the table, if you do,you won't have "meat" in the house.
Never put your hat on the table... if you do,someones going to die.
Never let a female be the first one to enter your house on new years day...trouble all year long..LOL

If a wild bird flys into your house,it's a sign of death in the family.

If you hear a rooster crow at night,it's a sign of death in the family.

If you turn over the salt shaker, throw some over your left shoulder, wards off bad luck.

Now this one really works guys/gals.I have done this and I am still with the one I love[31 years ago].
If you nail a nail in the heel print of the one you love,he/she will never roam..
What you do is,as they go out the door and place their heel onto dirt, drive the nail into their heel print in the dirt...But don't let them see you do it..It won't work if they do.

I don't believe in them, but I know someone who says the birth mark on his shoulder is because his mother was eating at a picnic when she was pregnant, and said if she ate one more hot dog she would burst. At that moment she swatted at a fly that landed on her shoulder and where her hand hit was where the birth mark appeared on her baby.
My grandmother, a superstitious atheist, was walking with my mother while my mother was pregnant with me, and they saw a dead dog beside the road. My grandmother went hysterical and told my mom that if she looked at the dog it would cause me to have terrible birth marks. My mom laughed at her. I turned out ok.
My grandmother and the superstitious man who believed the hot dog story were both from Craig County Virginia, a community dominated by racists where the KKK targeted me a few years ago because I don't share their hatred for black people. Funny how racism and ignorant superstitions are related.
