The I-Pod Nano
A thinner design. Five stylish colors. A brighter display. Up to 24 hours of battery life. Just about the only thing that hasn’t changed is the name. In 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB models starting at $149, iPod nano puts up to 2,000 songs in your pocket.(1)

SanDisk Sansa e260R sold at Best Buy for $150. The "R" stands for Rhapsody because it is designed to work well with the Rhapsody music website. The rechargeable battery is replaceable by the owner, whereas the Apple Nano rechargeable batteries are non replaceable when they wear out.

It depends whether you're doing for something affordable or high capacity. There are many good websites that may help.
I recommend the Sansa e200 series. I own it and it works very well. Try amazon as well; they have an mp3 section.

iPod Nano 2GB. This is a great product, expensive, but worth it. If you do get one oviously get a case or screebn protector for it. Holds a lot of songs and you can get a lot of acessories for it. Arm bands, docking stations, etc.
