Antony Van Lewenhoek 1632-1723. Dutch inventor of the first microscope. He was a textiles merchant before that. Textile merchants had to use magnifying glass to inspect the quality of the material. He just wanted to come up with something that would work even better. So,he just experimented. Until he got to the level of the paramecium or amoeba and little 'animalicules' that swim in the water.
