This is a bit of a trick question. In one way you are right in assuming that all reptiles lay eggs. Reptilian fetuses never feed off of their mother during development and are in fact enclosed within an egg separate from their mother.
On the other hand, not all reptiles physically remove the eggs from their bodies. Although most will lay the eggs and either leave or defend them, some reptiles never lay the eggs. These reptiles keep the eggs inside. The eggs do not have shells, but merely a membrane. When the young are "born" they are expelled from the body fully developed (hopefully) and emerge from these membranes (or sacks).
The term for a reptile that keeps the eggs inside until the young are fully developed is oviviparous. Those that lay the eggs and let the young develop outside of the body are viviparous. Oviviparous snakes are not "pregnant" in that the young never feed off of the mother. Rather the mother is considered to be "gravid."
Reptiles can be strange but fascinating animals.

no not all reptiles lay eggs ...
boa's ,garters,Anaconda and Northern Water Snakes are live bearer's just to name a few...
There are two methods by which a snake will give birth: by laying eggs or by giving birth to live young. There is also a third hybrid method combining the two by which the snake will hold the eggs internally until they hatch and then giving birth to the young. When a snake lays eggs she does not sit on them as we think of with a hen, but rather lays the eggs in a shallow pool of water or other damp, warm area. Some young hatch from the eggs by way of a special birthing tooth, which it loses afterwards. Roughly 70% of births are through the egg laying method.
While waiting for hatching, the female snake may shiver her body to keep the nest of eggs warm. They will also stay nearby the eggs to protect them for any prey. If the eggs become dry she will urinate on them to keep them moist. The nest itself may be used year after year and often the female snake will travel many miles to return to it.
hope this helps you.....

Boas and pitvipers and a few other snakes give live birth. Armadillo lizards and a few other do too. I think that all turtles are egglayers.
