The best I can remember was a night out in Val d'Isere in a T bar somewhere, or it might have been walking/running 5 miles up to Tignes val Claret in the snow as I had missed the last bus up from Tignes Les Breviers. (either that or buses were not running that night)

Well as Hogmanay is Scottish, my favourite is still the one I spend in Glasgow...
It was raining (a bit) the people were everywhere and the pubs were great too...
Now, you are going to be very, very nice with me and you are going to answer my questions, no matter what!
Please!!!!!
Your holidays are very French, I see.... and snowy?

I think my best memory is an amalgamation of Hogmanies (about 3 years rolled into 1) in Edinburgh when I was young and good looking man, everyone, or a lot of people, mainly young, would meet at the Tron Church in Edinburgh High Street to hear the bells ring out.It was fantastic, I remember getting dragged down to the womens toilets by a girl/woman for some drunken sex, also before AIDS became a big deal, most people young and old, male and female would wander around passing their bottles to each other and having a good old snog and swapping drinks. I don't remember any or much trouble on these occasions just a joyous communion of human spirits, felt very pagan and fun, lawless and harmless.
Post aids I remember going up again and it felt like the atmosphere had changed forever, no longer the sharing openly of bottles (or anything else) people tended to stay in their own groups that they trusted, the element of mischievious fun had gone, or had I just grown up? What ever it was it was changed for me since then.

Osnabruck 1973. Fantastic time. Last New Year in BAOR, and the best. Or 1972, Ewell Road, Surbiton, Surrey. That was a cracker. All the Kingston Bernie Inn restaurant crowd there with Susan.

Am I taking it that you were an adult at the time?? that don't count (Hogmonay?new year) have to be childhood memories (Or I'd always win cos the ladies beg to sleep with me) , Had a great one when I was about 14 and went to a "Barn Dance" and crept out during the night into the garden (Where said dancing was taking place). After getting drunk on Heineken(of all things) spent the evening/night not knowing if I'd be sick or ****?
Am now a drunk!!::-)

Watching the crazy people at midnight in Stonehaven in Scotland swinging their fire balls around - it was absolutely freezing and we couldn't feel our feet but the atmosphere was fantastic, we all had our hip flasks with us to keep warm inside and the crowds were all in a party mood, so there was dancing in the street. When we got back home in the wee small hours, there was hot soup waiting.

Looking at the fireworks popping up all over the city, standing at my baby's bedroom window. Magical.
