How do you hook an external keyboard to a laptop?

Guys, I may be blonde but I'm not stupid. The particular keyboard i have has a purple standard plug like you plug into a desktop. My laptop is less than 6 months old and has 4 USB port, a DSL port, a phone jack port and the small ports on the side for input and output speakers. Any more suggestions? I also have dvd and an external hard drive. I'm clueless unless i have to get an adapter now.

hi.. just look for the imput, an it should show a keyboard above the imput, plug it in all it will install, if you cant find a imput,, you can get a usb converter for your keyboard at best buy or walmark exc... hope that helped - jon, if u need more help you can email me

If it is a Usb port then plug it into the correlating usb port in the back of the laptop. If not there should be a colored end on the cord. Simply plug that cord into the port on the computer that is the same color. Hope this does not sound to confusing.

Unless the laptop is more than 5 years old, there should be a port for it. Just find the correct port and plug it in, it should work.

It depends on what type of connector the keyboard uses, typically a USB. Just connect it to the proper port on your laptop, which is usually located on the back or sides of the laptop.

There should be a green circle to plug it into on the side or the back of the laptop.

Plug it in. Or use Bluetooth if it's a wireless keyboard.
