It depends on what conditions you are driving in. If you are in rainy or cold areas you will probably want either FWD or AWD.

RWD has a issue with slippery surfaces because when you loose control of the rear end it will want to pass the front end. This happens because your pushing the car from the rear to get it to move.

FWD does not have this problem because now you are pulling the front end and it helps to keep the rear of the vehicle behind you. You can still spin out with FWD if you are going to fast for the conditions or around a turn.

AWD is the best because most AWD drive vehicles also have a traction control system. Under normal driving situations all 4 wheels provide the same amount of power to move the vehicle. In slippery situations one wheel may loose traction. When this happens the traction control will automatically remove power from the wheel and send it to the other three (or 2 or 1 depending on how many loose traction)

If you never drive in slippery conditions I wouldnt waste money on a AWD. They also weigh more than a FWD or RWD vehicle which means more gas usage. But if you are driving in areas like described above, surely at least get FWD, try to aim for AWD.

Insurance companies also consider FWD almost as safe as AWD. AWD being the top and RWD being at the bottom.

Hope this helps.

just for running around the highways and byways, i like the front wheel drive. good traction and control, easy on the fuel. off-road give me a four-wheel-drive. rear wheel drive should be put in a museum and AWD are just plain dumb
