Warranties are pretty good. Get the extended just for the peace of mind. Contrary to properly believe here on Yahoo Answer, Harley Davidson's are one the most reliable motorcycles made. Just maintain it properly and you will not have any problems.

As far as the dealerships, they are independently owned and there are good and bad. Shop around ask questions in your local area. The Harley Dealer I go to is more than 100 miles from where I live, but he has the best selection and prices. Plus great service. The local dealer's prices are way to high.

Warranties vary regarding length(years) anywhere from two to seven years. The extended warranties(7 year ones) are the best buy because the warranty is transferable when and if you sell the motorcycle. Also someone stated in an answer here that overseas you have to pay the dealership. Not so. I have ridden on 5 continents and have utilized Harley dealerships on each. Never did I have to pay up front and submit a bill to Harley's head office. Also I have found the warranties to be honored at all dealerships as well as some Harley Davidson accredited shops.

I don't know why this myth of Harleys being unreliable persists. The bikes built in the last 20 years are very reliable. I bought a new FLST in 1989. Rode it 13 years, coast to coast and back 3 times. Put 100,000 miles on it. All I ever replaced was 1 stator and 1 starter solenoid. My son is still riding it. In 2002 I got a new FLTRI. Great bike. I've ridden it hard for 4 years now with no problems.

The last few years HD went from a 12 month, 12,000 mile warrantee to 24 months unlimited miles.
The extended warrantee, in the USA, as I understand it works just like the regular warrantee. Overseas most dealers make you pay for the work and then you get reimbursed by the company. Never used it because I never bought it on my bikes.

Talk to a dealer. Factory warranty is 2yrs. / unlimited mileage.
I have the extended - 7 yrs. / unlimited mileage.

I picked up my Superglide in July.
And the spelling is: Harley-Davidson.

Factory warranty....you pay nothing until the warranty runs out. If you bought an extended warranty, there is a deductable to pay.....I think it's $50. Just call any dealership, I'm sure they will tell you.

Whatever it is, ask about an extended warranty. Harleys are not known for their reliability.
