It seems that like thats whats happening. Are there any girls or boys out there that want to share the reasons? I've always had the perception that girls would not like hip hop because of swearing and materialism portrayed in the songs.

Asian singers and music styles in America are really nonexistent, so perhaps those Asians that you know subconciously feel more connected with rap and hip-hop because it is from another minority, so they can still relate a little.

Many Asians are also called "white-washed", though, meaning they ignore their heritage and try to act white. They are also sometimes called "bananas" or "twinkies" because they are yellow (Asian) on the outside, but "white" on the inside. On the other hand, FOB-ie Asians (FOB - Fresh Off the Boat) are often considered to be "too Asian". It seems like no matter how an Asian American acts people will lable them!

Although the "gangster Asians", "Asian FOB" and "white-washed Asians" are stereotypes that you may notice, I think you should take each woman as an individual. There are MANY Asian women who do not like rap or who are neutral to it.

Also, in Asian nations, it's kind of a fad. Similarly, in America, white people, Asians, and Hispanics/Latinos all have subgroups who are interested in the "hip-hop/gangsta" style and attitude. It's also good dancing music, even to people who dislike rap.

I am Asian, and I would like to say that the themes of materialism and violent language appeal to my race.
