He's not the best in the league right now, he's a big ballhog, he sucked in the slam dunk contest that he won (because everyone else sucked worse), Kobe I believe shot 7-16 from three-point range the night he scored 81.That's important, because Elgin Baylor scored 77 points without a three-point line. Oh yeah, and the fact that he hasn't won a Championship since Shaq left even with Lamar Odom, Phil Jackson and the whole triangle offense is not saying very much to me about him as a player.

If you really don't know, and you are seriously asking that question, I will explain it to you.

First, I do think Kobe is the best player in the league, he is also the best few in NBA history.
With the 3 point line, who scored more than 81?
who brought his team back when they are down by 18, did you seriouly watch that game?
What about the Utah game this year when he scored 52 and didn't miss at all in the 3rd quarter?
And have you watched Lakers basketball any team recently?
If yes, they I don't know where you got the ballhog from, I actually think he's passing a little too much now.
About slam dunk, he won because he was the best in that year, I'm sorry that everyone else sucked more than he did, but aren't they suppose to choose a champion even when everyone sucked?

About the championship question, shaq haven't leave for that long yet.
This is only the 2nd year that Phil is back, so he didn't win for 1 year, big deal.
that guy's only 28, there are a lot of time left in his career, and the Lakers teammates aren't good enough right now. And again, his career haven't ended yet.

He also did so many amazing things in his career, if you watched Lakers Rockets game this year where they won in double OT, he scored 53, 10 rebounds, and 8 assists(would have been a triple-double if Kwame Brown haven't miss the EASY lay-ups) and brought his team from down by 21.

He carry the team to game 7 last year in the playoffs against Suns and almost won.

Right now the Lakers are playing without Lamar, and they are still winning.

He did so many amazing things in his career and will keep on doing them.
Don't you consider someone a great NBA player after those things?

No disrespect to you or anything, I really think he is a great player, you may not like him, but you should still respect his talent.

Kobe Bryant is not the best player in the NBA. He's not even close!

LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, Steve Nash, Carmelo Anthony (even though I don't like him), Dirk Nowitzki, Allen Iverson, Vince Carter and like 50 other guys are all better than Kobe Bryant. Kobe Bryant is all commercial, he's not that good. He's good but he's not the best. And when the Lakers won the championships, it wasn't because of him, it was mostly Shaq doing the work and Kobe whining to the coaches about how he doesn't get the ball enough. Well, now he has the ball, but the Lakers aren't winning any championships.

So what if he scored 81. His team still didn't get far in the playoffs so it doesn't matter.

And please don't anyone compare Kobe to Elgin Baylor or any of the other NBA legends who would own Kobe if they ever played against him. Making Kobe sound like a legend and comparing him to the likes of Mike makes you look stupid so don't say it.

With all that being said, Kobe is not a great NBA player. He plays good sometimes but he isn't as nearly as consistent as a great NBA player should be. To be a great NBA player you need skill, talent, consistence, and patience. Kobe doesn't have half of these things and he's not a great NBA player. The only reason he scores 30 a night is because the rest of his teams sucks and if you put an average NBA player on a team that sucked, he'd score 30 a night as well.

Did I miss anything?

I totally agree with you, some people have the illusion that just because a player scores lots of points, that alone makes him a good player. Well, that ain't so. This guy is a selfish hotdog who has never been a team player, the man's on an ego trip. Take players like Jason Kidd, Kevin Garnett, there are many players in the NBA that are much better than Kobe.

first off, i dont like the lakers or kobe, but i respect him. he is a great player. he can score at will and the point of basketball is to have more points than the other team. he can get others involved like this year, he is trying to be more of a team guy. he is a good shooter and shoots a nice % from the floor and line. he alters the game in ways that dont appear on the stat sheet. once kobe hits the floor, you automatically have to keep an eye on him and probably double team him which leads a guy open. and who else would you rather have down 2 pts with 3 secs left to shoot the ball? i dont know about you guys, but im taking kobe.

Actually Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points without a 3-point line. I am a Bryant fan, i think he works really hard, but indeed any player as selfish as Kobe would score so many points, he was a star from the beginning. Being an Nba player at 17? you gotta respect that.

Kobe Bryant's combination of skill and athleticism makes him the best INDIVIDUAL player in the NBA. That being said, I could never consider him the best player in the NBA because he does not make the rest of the team better. All it takes is watching one quarter of Laker basketball to see Kobe jacking up off balance threes early in the shot clock to realize he makes a lot of shots because he takes a lot of shots. Sure he makes some unbelievable shots, but when they don't go in those same shots are awful shots. He shoots about 45% which isn't bad but he's a "quantity", not "quality" player.

If he ain't then who is? LBJ is good and all, but he's not really on Kobe's level. Kobe's between-the-legs dunk?! Legendary. And if Elgin Baylor were to play Kob, then he'd get murdered! EB is good though...and Kobe is the real deal. If not, he wouldn't be killing guys all across the league like he has been for the past 6 years. Get ya mind correct.

Kobe is a great player because hes a awsome shooter and his 81 point game against the rapters. Also because of his great plays. He makes nice disitions. ALSO HES NOW NOT A BALL HOGGER! People who say hes a ball hogger are dumb. They should see how Kobe passess this season. They shouldnt judge about last season. Also hes a great player because of his defensive awareness and his great steals. Hes man nice in dunkn'! He just doesnt dunk anymore because he knows its best to pass then do everything himself!

Elgin doesn't play anymore so Kobe is a great NBA player.

Shaq never won an NBA with Penny Hardaway. Shaq won 3 NBAs with Kobe. So I guess Kobe is a great NBA player.

The fact that you are so flaming about Kobe, tells me that he is a great NBA player.
