oh God . . . this happened to me, too -- twice (I'm not allowed to paint anymore in the house)! Dilute with water and sop up as much as you can before it dries!!! This worked for me for the first stain but not the second.

If you can't remove all of the stain, a friend who manages an apartment complex suggested this:
have a professional carpet repairman remove a section of carpet from the closet in that room (it will match and will be clean) and replace the stained section with the closet section. Worked like a charm for me.

Wash with water before the paint dries, and hope the water doesn't cause it to moulder.
