This is not a situation where I can report her to the boss or get her in trouble. She works for a seperate company but we share space. She is habitually late, then makes coffee, then breakfast some days & yaps at my desk instead of booting up her computer. She not only distracts me, her bad attitude about the job means I end up doing more work because she is on personal calls or long lunches when the boss is out.

I just need a better technique than whining to my friends to blow off the steam. I can't afford to let her know how hard she is to work with because in the past when I have mentioned even little things she takes offense & then her behavior is worse.

any suggestions?

oops, sorry, forgot to mention...when she does this stuff we are the only two people in the office. No one knows about her behavior except me. And it isn't an option to not do the extra work as clients walk in if she is out or on the phone they go past her to me. I can't turn them away.

I really just need a way to deal with my own stress, not her behavior.
Thanks for your ideas.

Ask her to have sex with you.

Just bide your time. I am sure that others have noticed her lack of "engagement" too. If she is the type to take offense easily, stay away from her; she sounds like the type that will put in a bogus complaint just to get you in trouble. If your superiors ask you about her performance you can answer very diplomatically that she doesn't appear to be happy and that maybe her current position is not a "good fit" for her.

There is an excellent Chinese proverb that says that if you have an enemy you should sit by the side of the river because sooner or later your enemy's body will come floating by. Just let her hang herself with her own hands.

The next time she takes on a bad attitude about the job, then kindly suggest she go talk to the boss about it. Chances are she won't want to do that, but will get the hint that griping to you isn't the right place to go.

Stay calm and remember the boss and other higher ups are probably taking note of her poor work ethic. Many times, it's just a matter of gathering enough evidence to fire the person so the company doesn't get sued itself.

Look, if she's bugging you that bad, you can either let your boss know and ask to be moved to another department, or confront her yourself that you need some space from her. Every office has one (mine included). When ignoring doesn't work, and she only gets worse when you tell her, put exlax in her coffee. She'll be out of the office all day and give you a break (i'm kidding dee!)

when she wants to stand and yap at your desk, just tell her that you don't have time right now to talk, but will when you go on break and then spend 5 minutes of your break talking with her, use the bathroom and get something to drink, maybe take a quick walk if possible around the office space or up and down the hall a few times. then keep to that type of schedule. just tell her that you got in trouble for talking to her all the time and that you can't talk right now, but will when you go on break. you'll find that she'll worry about getting in trouble herself and will quit talking as much.

If she works for a separate company, I'd just tell her to buzz off. If she cripes, whines, complains, etc...tell her to tell someone who cares 'cause you have work to do and you are sick of her stealing your time w/her poor attitude, etc. You should never let another person affect your attitude (I'm guilty of it too) because really in the grand scheme of things do they really matter in your life, career, etc... you don't have to be mean, but just tell her you are sick of it and if it continues you'll write a letter of complaint to her boss.

As you dont work for the same company, you have the excuse that your boss needs this work done and has confronted you about working so you need to get things done. Do NOT , under any circumstances do her work. If she isnt doing her work, do not make it up, do not answer her calls, nothing, nada, zero. Its not your company, its not your job.

I agree with Bren, Exlax will do the trick! lol
It's only a temporary solution though, you should probably sit them and down and talk things out, afterall your both adults??
Good Luck

Well, tell her that you are busy and can't chat right now. Ignore her, get some headphones/music to listen to. Who cares if she's late if she doesnt work for you.
