The book is better. The movie is just a beautiful picture...
And I mean beautiful. But I prefer reading the book again than seeing the movie for a third time... Aaron.

I hear that the director ,Tom Tykwer, has done a great job with the adaptation of Patrick Süskind's dark novel into the big screen. Don't forget that it was Stanley Kubrick who said before that "The Perfume" was an unfilmable novel. The movie is a two-hour-plus spectacle of epic proportions. I read that Tykwer prefers traditional craftsmanship over computer-generated imagery in this film and that the clever screenplay is very close to the spirit of the novel.

In this colourful and gripping film, you can literally "smell" the pictures. Sometimes they are captivating, sometimes awful, but they are always fascinating. A great, great movie about sensuality, desire, greed... and the quest for love. Wonderful cast (even Hoffman is excellent!), wonderful music (and the score is not "too" present, which is a good thing), wonderful direction. 2 and a half hours may seem a long time for some, but not for the real sensualists. The story and the film may have their flaws, but they also have outstanding qualities and in a perfect world Tom Tykwer should receive an award for his superb adaptation of the splendid book by Patrick Süsskind.

A must see. Or, should I say, a must "smell"!

I havent read the book but i love the film, i never seen anything like it. i would like to get the book though i'm not an avid reader.

I've heard several reviews that say it really does capture the flavor of this unlikely movie.
