As a Met fan that I am, I'd rather trade Lastings Milledge and a minor league pitcher to the Marlins for Dontrelle Willis. I prefer the D-Train over Zito for the Mets.

I wish Zito went to the Mets or the Yankees too so he could mess up their pitching staffs with his bloated contract. You will be happy before the end of Zito's contract.

Here is what Rob Neyer had to say about Zito on ESPN

"The only thing this deal does is make the Giants look ridiculous. Granted, Zito's ERA will get a boost from the National League and the Giants' home ballpark. And this one isn't as dumb as the Mike Hampton deal with the Rockies. But based on the facts at hand, this looks to me like one of the dumber free-agent signings ever. Zito just isn't very good."

The Mets wanted him, but for not that much. You can't blame them.

Zito has won 20 games once. The rest of his career has been decent to sub par. He's always been overrated and is NOT worth $18 million a year.

As for the Giants. Zito will give them more or less wins than what Schmidt did 11 to 15. Giants finish in 3rd place at best.

To be fair - Zito, as well as many other pampered ballplayers, had the luxury of staying at home wishing to remain in the bay area.

"As part of his agreement with the Giants, Zito will fund the construction of youth fields in the San Francisco area through his foundation."

Much like Soriano, neither player is going to get a sniff at the World Series. The Cubs and Giants are both perennial losers. It's no longer about championships - it's all about, "Show Me the MONEY!!!"

How is that a question? And I take it you aren't a real baseball fan if you claim to like both the Mets and Yankees. As an old friend of mine once said "A real Mets fan doesn't go to Shea stadium with a sign saying I love the mets a real mets fan has a sign that says F*ck the Yankees" They are cross town rivals. Its not nearly as good of a rivalry as the Giants, Yankees Dodgers when all 3 were in NY/Brooklyn but it is still a cross town rivalry.
