I see lots of pregnant women who are breastfeeding.

Exclusive breastfeeding inhibits ovulation. Breastfeeding is a fairly reliable method of birth control but ONLY in the first 6 months after giving birth, and ONLY if the mother is breastfeeding exclusively: not supplementing with any formula, juice, or other foods. Once the baby needs more than breast milk it should not be relied upon as contraception. If parents absolutely don't want another baby too soon after the first then they should probably use a back-up method of contraception and not completely rely on breastfeeding.

Breastfeeding can deter ovulation. Something in the making of the milk sends out hormones telling your body not to ovulate.

But you can still ovulate and get pregnant while breastfeeding it all depends on the woman and how often she breastfeeds.

Breastfeeding *can* deter ovulation...but I know many a girl who still got pregnant, and it was quite a shock to them...it's simply not a good form of birth control.

Yes, I have seen a pregnant women breastfeed.

Why wouldn't they be able to get pregnant while breastfeeding? You get pregnant through your vagina, not your boobs!

Yep, I've seen it. It's in no way a form of birth control, but it does put more pressure on the mom to eat more, and eat very healthy to feed herself, her breastfed baby, and the baby growing inside.
