How do you delete songs off youre ipod from itunes?

i have songs on my ipod that i never listen to and they just get in the way so i was wondering how to delete them. i knew at one time but i forgot. and i use itunes. and also i have a nano if that makes a differance..

go to itunes and open your library and right click on the songs you dont want and go to delete or clear and then click on file and update your ipod and the song should be deleted
