The United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team says that IE has significant vulnerabilities and that people should not use it:

"There are a number of significant vulnerabilities in technologies related to the IE domain/zone...It is possible to reduce exposure to these vulnerabilities by using a different web browser"

Internet Explorer relies on ActiveX for some features to work, despite the new IE7 not having ActiveX turned on by default, its still there and could be a security risk. Without ActiveX some features may not work properly in IE

Here is what Microsoft had to say about this feature:
"An ActiveX control can be an extremely insecure way to provide a feature...From the moment a user downloads an ActiveX control, the control may be vulnerable to attack..."
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/workshop/components/activex/security.asp
(Firefox doesn't have ActiveX at all)

Using IE means there is more of a chance of screwing up your PC and have your ID stolen.
Here is IE and FF side by side

IE supports webstandards very poorly, try this test with IE and Firefox

Firefox is faster, safer, more secure, easier to use... But the big thing for me (I use Firefox) is that it's customizable.

I can block pop-ups, banner ads, iframe ads, flash ads... easily.
I can control iTunes without switching to it.
I can change the look of Firefox - yesterday I had a Christmas theme. Today it's neon signs. Tomorrow it will be cats.
I can change how sites look - and act - with CSS and JavaScript I say to load on specific sites.

I'm no long a passive observer of the internet. If there's a badly designed site, I can change it!
(And then e-mail the changes to the owner of the site, if I want to)

If Windows crashes - all the sites I was looking at are remembered and offered to me the next time I start Firefox.

I can read RSS feeds like they're bookmarks - or load them in an RSS reader.

The add-ons that I install are peer-reviewed and fast evolving. They update whenever I start Firefox. When I need to "restart" Firefox because I've installed an add-on or theme - I'm brought right back to the sites I was reading before.

Now tell me, what can IE7 do?

Before IE7, Firefox was the only popular browser where you had multiple windows displayed in tabs. Also, the internet security by Firefox was far superior to that of IE.

Now with IE7, the tabs are no longer unique, but I don't know about security.

microsoft writes crappy code for their products. Firefox is more user-friendly and not prone to spyware and viruses at the moment.
I upgraded to IE7 recently and now i can't login to some sites, pop-ups are blocked with the blocker turned OFF. It's a piece of junk. Firefox is the way to go

Firefox is better than IE because it actually supports W3 standards. Have you ever tried serious web design? Everyone has to bend over backward for IE, because it has too many problems. IE 6 doesn't follow the box model properly, doesn't support much of CSS, etc. It's a pain because your webpages have to be specially designed to work with IE.

You get less Viruses and bad software

not as many people create viruses and junk for Mozilla as those who do for IE. That is why there aren't viruses on Macs. Both macs and Mozilla are less popular than PC's and IE so people who create bad software don't want to waste time creating for places that don't have that many users.
