I found a flea biting my neck today and when I tried to get it off, it jumped away and I'm afraid it jumped into my hair! Can or will the flea start to live in and lay eggs in my hair?

Yup.

You need to treat your animals, and if they have infested your carpet, give it a good salting then vacuum it a few days later. As long as you use shampoo, they shouldn't survive on your scalp.

Cat fleas cat bite a human (usually around the lower leg) but cannot breed on a human. The life cycle of a cat flea is about 2 weeks. If you have an infested cat then you could be getting bites for a week after the cat has been treated.

Best to treat the whole house with products you can buy for this purpose.

It is not likely that a fleas would lay eggs in your hair and live there. First, when a flea lays eggs, the eggs fall off the host (that would be you) before they hatch. Also, once you wash your hair, the flea would end up coming out. Unless you are living in a severely infested house and don't wash your hair, you should be just fine.

Absolutely! A flea is a parasite. They feed off the blood of warm animals and their don't care what species you are. If you got warm blood, you're a restaurant to a flea. They can move and jump quickly, are hard to kill and they will hide in your furniture and carpet for weeks and eggs can lay dormant for months. Go to the pharmacy and buy a bottle of boric acid. It's a white powder that's safe for humans and pets but deadly for bugs. Bath the cat, vacuum, then sprinkle a LIGHT dusting of boric acid on all your rugs and carpets. You will be flea free. P.S. Boric acid also kills ants, cockroaches and silverfish. It's the cheapest, most effective household exterminator on the market.

Fleas live in your house, then jump onto dogs, cats, or humans to feed. It used to be an old wives tale that fleas could not survive on human blood--that is a myth. They can. Here is some more interesting info below:

Fleas are a type of wingless parasite found worldwide. They feed off the blood of humans and animals such as dogs and cats. Since fleas use a wide range of hosts, diseases can be transferred from one host to another. Fleas are known to transmit tapeworm larvae and, uncommonly, the disease murine typhus. They are most notorious for transmitting bubonic plague from wild rodents to humans within certain parts of the world (not Australia). There are three main species of flea that infest humans:

Cat flea (Ctenocephalides felis)
Dog flea (Ctenocephalides canis)
Human flea (Pulex irritans).

the flea won't live on you or lay eggs on you. only on animals, or in carpets and upholstery. they will bite you and then jump off. my cats had fleas last fall and my house was also infested. It took me 6 weeks of spraying and vacuuming twice a day to get rid of them. It was a horrible experience. get flea medication on your animals right away and give it to them every month forever so you never have to worry about this again.

No, they will not lay eggs on a human. However, if you have a cat then you need to not only treat her for fleas but also your carpets and any place that she sleeps...that way you won't get bit again!

Fleas do not infest humans...they may infest your clothes or your bedding and carpet, but they will not infest you. Take a shower and you will be fine!

they feeed on your blood thats why they bit you ,but they live in the carpets ,under floor boards any where dark and warm ,go to the shop and buy some household flea spray close all the windows and doors as you do each room ,then go out for a few hours this should get rid of them if you notice after a few days you get bit again they spray again ,as sometimes new eggs that get missed will hatch ,catch them early and you will kill the lot ,but no they dont breed on you they feed on you .
