i went to the grocery store in a rush and i did not feel like carrying a purse. so i only took $100 and my license in my pocket. when i finished i went to pay and my total was like $140 plus change. (i know, i should have paid attention to what i was putting in the cart, but i guess i forgot i didnt have my purse) the line was super long and i had to stand there and pick out what i wanted and did not want in front of all these impatient people. and to make matters worse my 3 year old started to freak out for a pack of skittles. i have never been so embarrased but the odds are i wont see these people again. has something like that ever happened to you and what did you do?

I just want to know how you get in line in front of me every damn time.

These are the things that build character. It's embarrasing now. Later it will be an amusing story to tell. When your kid is a teenager or adult you can talk about it and how he (or she?) made it worse and have a laugh.

Just pay more attention next time. If you don't live too far, you could have asked to have it all bagged and set aside and you would go home and come back with your checkbook/debitcard. But it sounds like you were in a hurry so maybe that wasn't an option. Sounds like you did the best you could. Don't let it bother you. These things happen.

That's just life sweety. We all have our moments in the lime light when we would rather be anywhere else... I got to the airport a few months ago and forgot my purse in the shuttle on route.. not only was I late for my flight but I held up the line for like 30 minutes while a security gaurd went and looked for my purse, I had 25 people really mad at me... these things just tend to happen when we can least afford them to. I just figure for every crappy experience we have to go through God will grace us with one or two enjoyable ones. Move on and don't dwell... Peace.

Children will be children and unfortunately they do freak out, Next time try to keep a running tally of your purchase, so you will be better prepared, and save your self some embarrassment and everyone else some frustration. This has happened to me, and all I could do was be apologetic to everyone behind me. I felt like the biggest a$$ and then my kids started freaking out too for candy! I vowed then and there never to put my self in that situation again.

on another note, I believe it is the merchants responsibility for the children's tantrum's, they are the ones that place those last minute temptations there in the first place.

You'd be on the set of coronation highway! In thought i assume if no longer something ever happend, there could have been no enormous Bang which might mean that circumstances for existence would not have been created!! In physics isn't there a regulation that states each action HAS AN equivalent AND OPPOSITTE reaction?? consequently if there grow to be no preliminary action, evoloution would not exist.... Cool! Existential questions:)

Not that exact same thing, and I can't think of any examples, but I'm quite sure I've been in similar situations where I'm under pressure and something happens that's out of my control.

I just try to conclude my business as quickly as possible but without shorting the service to which I'm still due.

A wise person would turn to anyone in line behind her and apologize. Unless someone is a complete ***, that will make them feel better.

You're only human. Anyone who got impatient with you probably would have had something or someone else to have a fit over that day anyway. Don't let it bother you. It's not like you intentionally went to the store to make their lives miserable; they were probably miserable already.

An incident that happened to me recently: I got the dates of a college class mixed up, and came to the class three days after it had started. How embarrassing is that?

Yes, and I was so embarrased like you! But, you're right...you probably won't see them again so it's no big deal.

On a side note, I have two little boys and I just LOVE (not) how they put all the candy right by the checkout so while you are waiting your kids are either begging for candy or trying to figure out a way to steal it!

Happens to me all the time. I don't pay attention to whats on sale so some days I can get out of there for around a hundred and some days it's like 150. I just put stuff back and that's the end of it. Being a mom, my kid embarrasses the hell out of me all time so I'm used to it.

I had a similar situation without a screaming kid. I turned around and made an announcement to the people on line behind me that I apologize for inconveniencing them and I will proceed as quickly as possible.

Strangely, the people did not get upset--and thi was in NY!
