Can you be more specific? There is a lot of different settings for security - are you meaning File and Folder security settings?
Those are simply Access Control Lists (ACL's). You have to be on the list in order to access the folder/file. Acts like a bouncer at a Ritzy Club... "I don't see your name on the list."
