that would be
1) George Washington: he set great precedents. his neutrality policy although broken would have benfitted the country greatly and most importantly, because he was able to give up all that power readily. even king george said he would like to meet this man who can give up so much power already in his hands.

2) Thomas Jefferson: I disagree with him for changing his views on the cinstitution due to the lousiana purchase which ultimately led to more trouble for the native americans. and he was a hypocrite about slavery. but his declaration of independence was mindblowing...have i ever seen someone who can mold language together so beautifully and powerfully, perhaps not.

3) Abraham Lincoln: for the same unspoken reasons.

4) FDR: he really brought America through a very difficult time.

5) Ronald Reagan: he was the Great Communicator wasn't he.

don't agree with andrew jackson though because while speaking for the common man his infamous indian removal act really got on my nerves. If I was to add a sixth I'd say Bill Clinton only because we were mostly at peace during his time. Don't mistake me as anti-Bush though--regarding him I am more neutral only edging toward the anti side.

good question. : )

(1) Lincoln - almost singlehandedly saving the Union;
(2) Truman - ended WW2, embarked on the rebuilding of Europe, stood against Communist expansion in Europe and Korea;
(3) Reagan - defense buildup made the Soviets blink; restored national pride; introduced supply-side economics;
(4) Washington - set countless precedents for future holders of the office; the certainty of his election was probably what put the ratification of the Constitution over the threshold;
(5) T. Roosevelt - probably the first to understand the implications of the rising great-power status of the US.

Not Jefferson - brilliant as a political thinker and writer, but other than the Louisiana purchase a very average 8 years in office;

1) George Washington. Without him, we would not have had a country.
2) Thomas Jefferson. Founding Father, Louisiana Purchase and Lewis & Clark.
3) James Madison. Father of the Constitution.
4) Harry Truman. One reason only: Had the guts to drop an atomic bomb to save more lives than it took.
5) Reagan. He spent way too much, but he spent it on winning the Cold War. Tax policy that lowered rates, but doubled revenue.

I disagree with FDR. He continued and strengthened policies of the previous (Republican) administration that socialized our country and prevented free market influences from stabilizing the economy, prolonging the depression. One of his closest advisors was Alger Hiss, a Communist spy.

1. George Washington. he was the first one to take the job. And he refused to be made a "king". He didn't have a big head.

2. President Lincoln. Even though he didn't intentionally set out to free the slaves, he manipulated the war in a way that ultimately led to the end of slavery.

3. President JFK. although he was a womanizer and pill popper, he built good foreign relations. Even the foreigners "idolized" him and his family.

4. Clinton was actually good with foreign policy but he was a womanizer too and it bit him in the butt.

5. Eisenhower. He built the interstate roadways. He wanted a way to move military supplies around but ultimately it led to our interstate system.

Jefferson
Tried to keep country close to the Constitution

Washington
except for the national bank suggested by Hamilton Washington tried to keep us free.

Madison
President during a tough time and did well

Monroe
Very honest Presidency. Monroe Doctrine while not totally constitutional was a good thing.

Jackson
Did away with the national central bank. Only president to leave office with no deficit to pass on.
