Why is it some cars have two rear fog lamps but some only have one, even if it's top of the range model? At first I thought it was because only the cheaper models had them, but it just doesn't make any sense why some cars have two and some have only one, even though they often have the lenses for two they only come with one fitted bulb.

Legally you must have a fog lamp. If two are fitted then only the offside or drivers side must work by law. If both work then that's a bonus. Some have a single lamp fitted in the middle. I drive for a living and asked mercedes whos truck i drive how come it passed it's mot with only one bulb. That's how I know the answer.

My car has only one on the offside as I am in the UK If i go to mainland Europe on holiday I am certain it will be illegal as in fog it could look like a motorbike from a distance. In conclusion i think it is a stupid idea that all cars do not have two rear foglights on the grounds of road safety. Why not just wire them both up in the factory it could save someones life.

The truth is that in England you only need the offside fog light to work !
The car`s you see with 2 could of been made in another country ( and imported into England ) as in some countries the law require`s 2 rear fog light`s .
The one`s you see with a fog light in the middle are a definite import as they are fitted as an aftermarket part ( normally Japanese import`s )
But as long as you have one ( o/side rear ) working in England then you are OK !

I used to have 1 fog light and 1 reversing light. Due to some careful repositioning done by a HGV persistantly pushing its way into the rear seats of my car, I now have neither.

I have a Seat Ibiza and it has one at the back and two at the front, no idea why.
Worse still you can't have the rear one on without having both the front ones on as well.
I'm more concerned about someone hitting me up the rear than I am about hitting someone else but, the mad Spaniards seem to think it's the other way around.
Oh well, that's life eh?
They'll sell you what they want you to buy, not always what you want.

basically one factor you may favor to imagine about. how will you be confident the bulb and the fuse are operating? you may replace the fuse with yet another one yet each from time to time you may't see that the bulb has lengthy gone. Assuming you've tried the bulb someplace else and that's operating that is maximum in all probability the swap. verify the connections and as a very last motel it ought to easily be a damaged cord.
