Now that the holidays are over, my house is an absolute mess. I need a vacuum that works well for kids with allergies and pets. Can anyone recommend a good vacuum that I won't have to replace and where to get it?

My wife tells me that Dyson is good. We have the Dyson DC15 and it works well. However, the Washington Post had a story today on Roombas - they can clean your house while you are away. They sound cool if you don't like cleaning yourself.

We got our Dyson at powervacs.com, which gave us a good price. I'm sure there are other online sites, and of course the conventional department or appliance stores have them, too. I know you can get roombas online, but I haven't seen them myself in the dept. stores.

For the price and ease in use, I recommend a Kenmore canister vacuum with the beater brush. Most models also include a beater brush for furniture. I also recommend buying the extended warranty, it has paid off for my family. You must change the bags when they are full where so many you must empty the cup and dust flies all over again. I am not fond of Sears but I do love their vacuums.

Get an Infinity or a Dyson. They are the best in the market. You can get either at most department stores.

Oreck. It can suck up an 8 pound bowling ball.
