Well, I'll name a few, but they aren't mystery.
1.Eragon (it was much better than the movie. I suggest buying it instead of the movie ticket, even if it costs more.)
2.Eldest (the sequel to Eragon)
3.Lord of the Rings (you might want to read The Hobbit first)
4.Choronicles of Narnia, starting with The Magician's Nephew.
5.The Warriors bboks (two series.)
6.Once Upon a Marigold
7.All the Harry Potter books. Those are really good.
There are some others, but that should be enough for me. If you want more, just ask again. Oh, and if you get bored, don't stop anyway. It doesn't matter. First, read the storyline. It's usually on the left when you open the cover. Sometimes its not there at all. The Bible improves your relationship with God, and everything like that, and everyone should read that.

The Christmas Jar, unsure of the author. Its an adult book but I recently read it and was a big fan.
Also Harry Potter, even though like everybody else said that. They're crazily addicting.
The Clique series is popular with a lot of 13 year old girls but it depends on your style, I didn't much care for it.
I HIGHLY recommend the Uglies trilogy by Scott Westerfeld, it includes the Uglies, The Pretties, and the Specials. One of my favorite series ever...
Another good book is Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine. There's another book thats sort of like a sequel to that but a different story, not really a sequel so much as a counterpart. It's called Fairest, same author.
Then one of my all time favorite books is the Madeline L'engle books, the Wrinkle in Time quartet. Rather advanced reading in some parts but an amazing series...
The City Of Ember was a really good book too.
Finally, I'd recommend Dreaful Sorry by Kathryn Reiss, which is a great horror/ mystery.
Good mystery books are Agatha Christie's stuff on Hercule Poirot but if you get bored easily you might not be able to stay with it...

I do not know what type of themes a 13 year old would like (besides mystery). I like vampire, ghost, and things like that with my books. I read a book called Vampire Kisses, they come with 2 sequeals, the 2nd one is Kissing Coffins, the 3rd one is Vampeville. Also, i do not know if this would be a very good book for a 13 year old (it has some sexuality in it) the book is called A Sertant Slant of Light. Again, don't know if this would be a good book for a 13 year old (also has little sexuality in it ) is: Dancing in Red Shoes Will Kill You. You should check out www.barnesandnoble.com I'm sure that, that the website will help

Try myster/thrillers by Matthew Reilly. ICE STATION takes off from page two and is fast-paced. AREA 7 is a continuation of the hero and his new book SCARECROW is a continuation of the hero too. TEMPLE is my favorite from this guy, although just about everything he writes is equally good. Try not to get bored, if you read fifteen minutes a day and put the book down and don't pick it up until the next day, you will get to the point where you say to heck with this and end up reading the whole book. Try it, you'll like it.

I love the new Doctor Who novels. They are fun and exciting and the chapters are not too long. Because the characters are on TV you know them all and that makes the books more fun. Also they are not really science fiction or historical stories - they are just really good stories with monsters and heroes.
I am 26 and have read a lot of Doctor Who books since I was a kid and they get better and better. Some of my friends have kids who love them too so I am sure a clever 13 year old with a great sense of humour would love them too.

Harry Potter.
Start with book 1 - The Sorcerer's Stone. They are definitely like mystery books and easy to read.
Every additional year, read the next book.

You might like "Ink spell". It is very interesting and captivated me to the end. It's a pretty big book, though. And then you would have to read the sequel. It's not mystery, but you do wonder what will happen and if the schemes will work. ( by Cornelia Funke)
Or the "Face on the Milk Carton". Its mysterious. Though a little confusing at first. And a little crazy, but I like it And it is very mysterious (by Caroline B. Cooney)

I completely recommend Trixie Belden. This is a mystery book series I actually started reading when I was younger than you. Trixie has been compared to Nancy Drew, but I think she's better (younger, more realistic). You can get them at the book store, or even on ebay or online.

Its not a mystery book, but if you like science fiction/medievel like setting, I highly reccomend the books written by Patricia C. Wrede. Its a set of four titled "Dealing with Dragons", "Searching for Dragons", "Calling on Dragons", and "Talking to Dragons."

The first book is about an improper princess who is tired of trying to be proper so she runs away to become a princess to a dragon instead. I was around 13 or so when I first read them and I still enjoy those books to this day. I hope you enjoy them!
