THANKYOU for understanding. i'm sick of all these people around me who are obsessed with brand names. They think it looks better when it has a name and is better quality. The fact is some of the brand names have better quality but some do not. I'm also a huge bargain shopper and often get compliments on my style. It's not about WHERE you bought you clothes, but HOW you put it together

I have to agree and disagree with you at the same time. I also get a lot of my clothes at Target because they are very cute and affordable. Sometimes though, I do spend more so certain blouses or sweaters that are name brand and they last forever. It's an investment. Mind you, I have only a few select pieces of clothing like that. I have seen many people criticize others who enjoy name brands. I will be honest, if I had the money, I would buy mostly those higher end name brands because of the quality. It seems sometimes, not always, that some people are just jealous of those who purchase name brands. I am not sure why because those are the people who are parading about how proud they are of their inexpensive clothing. Sounds like hypocrisy to me.

I completely agree!

[Insert long pause]

But....

I will say that many of the clothes from Target vary when it comes to fit. I can trust that Mossimo will usually do a good job, but a lot of the other brands they carry change often when it comes to fit, quality and sizing.

I think people like brands, because high-end designers put a lot of work into making sure the products are consistent and well-branded. You're not necessarily paying for the style, but the fit and quality. Consistency is important when you have someone with unique attributes who discovers that your brand works for them. If one season the look is off from the previous, that person will stop buying from you. Also, expensive brands often have first pick when it comes to designer patterns and fabrics, so you're getting the best of the best in terms of fashion forward thinking. And lastly, many companies put a lot of work into branding, so much so that when someone sees a certain item they instantly know that you're wearing Dior just because of the cut. It's free advertising for them and it tells people that you have the money and personality for cutting edge fashion.

On that note, I don't personally have the money to spend on expensive fashions, so when I do buy something trendy it's a mainstream knock-off or lower end name brand like Express or Gap. However, if I had the money I'd definitely pay for beautiful clothing, it's like collecting art.

Also, keep in mind that most designers didn't start out making expensive clothes, they're people like you who had great style and loved fashion. They thought outside of the box and forged their own way. Now others who are less creative buy their clothes because they can't put it together on their own. Be yourself... it pays off.

A lot of people feel the pressure from the clothing industry to buy the expensive brandnames they're pushing so that they'll look like the models in the advertisements.

All they're doing is falling victim to a fantastic advertisement campaign!

However you're not one of those people, which is good. You're able to budget money and find similar styles for half the cost. The only question is this: brand names tend to be a bit more expensive because they're of higher quality -- are the clothes you're buying that way? If so, then you've got nothing to worry about.

Way to go :)

And that's what fashion is all about. How to create your own unique fashion and style. If you can't afford a pair of 68 dollar jeans or choose to spend it on other things important to you other than over priced fabric, then I say KUDOS TO YOU.

Nothing is wrong with it and those with a respect for true fashion respect the many spectrums of fashion. So wear your 7 dollar shirt and stand next to the broad that spent 100 on hers who has no clue how to put her accessories together and make her sweat.

Kudos for you!

Unfortunately the US revolves around the all mighty dollar.
Well, most of us. You, obviously are not...

Many people who buy name-brand clothes can either afford them and/or are simply yearning for attention and acceptance. The latter deals with a lot of insecurity.

I wouldn't turn down brand-name clothes; many are high in quality (i.e. well made and durable), but I not paying for a piece of clothing that I can get at Target at more than half the price.

Bottomline?? People are insecure.

I am totally with you-
I like quality clothes- I normally cut out the tags, yet now they are embossing the inside of the clothes with brand names.

I don't want to sell other's clothes I want to look good!
Always have.

I do however buy certain brandnames for the quality of product-such as home appliances and high end items.

Some people are just economically challenged and will buy anything to satisfy the humiliation of their peers. It has nothing to do with quality, so don't believe that. Whatever the material is, its all fabricated the same, whether its cotton, nylon, polyester.... and so on, It's a piece of fabric with a name on and gullible people go for the popular names.

Seriously, those people who buy name brands can get like 1 pair of jeans for 100 bucks when I can just go to discovery and get hot jeans and more than 1 pair for $100

Personally I love brand names WHEN it comes to jeans.

Who knows, but I'm willing to throw out cash for a great pair of jeans I know will last me a long time. Jeans are a great investment!

Maybe people like me depend on brands to make us feel great?
