The statement goes........."Those who do not learn from history will be doomed to repeat it"..........and yes, we already see it happening over and over. People do not pay attention to what has already taken place, or they try to re-write history to suit their own needs, and because of this they will commit the same mistakes that have been previously made and should have been learned from.

not forced, but those who do not learn history are DOOMED to repeat it. I am 13 years old, and history is my least favorite subject. HOwever, I notcied there is a pattern in civilazations. The Roman empire fell because of a goverment that is too controlling, which was also the down fall of Iraq, and our goverment is not like that which is why our country is so prosperous. Then you can take ancient Islam. They had no religous freedom. How many different racial groups do you knwo of that came to the United States for religous freedom.

So yes, I do agree with the statement "people who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it"

YES I ABSOLUTELY AGREE!!!!!!!!!!!!

that is why one of my life's goals is to teach it.
history is by far the most important
"to understand the present and to imagine the future, we must learn history"

history is what has brought us where we are today and people often forget its human element which is psychology. people did this. and i get very disheartened when people hate history and find it boring and unecessary. i feel that not enough people today remember its significance and that can have devastating results for our future society...things like genocide and wars over the same reasons can reoccur..as we have seen in history itself that it repeats itself....

the lessons it teaches are profound and can pave the path to a much better society.

The pundit who wrote it had it slightly different; something like:

"Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

And I agree.

Sometimes people who know history...chose to repeat it...Knowing history....gives you a choice as to whether to repeat it or not...not all history is bad...learn from others ...after all who wouldn't want wheel repeated...one wheel? I don't think so... it would make a long line to use the unicycle

That is true in a way and then it is false. It is false because even if you know what happened in history, sometimes history repeats itself, whether accidental or not.

Sometimes people do not learn from their mistakes!

There are very few individuals who are capable of learning from the mistakes of others. Most people simply have to get their hands burned to know the stove is hot.

I agree. To know of the past is to learn for the future. When a child learns a fire is hot, he will no longer reach out for it. But in order for him to learn this he must of at one time touched the fire. Children learn from their past mistakes through a parents discipline. So we as a society are no different.
