The two top nightclubs in town are Jillian's (on Landsdowne Street) and The Rack, which is in Fanueil Hall. Jillian's is famous for being the place where (former Patriots quarterback) Drew Bledsoe got sh*t-faced one night about 5 or 6 years ago, so that should tell you something right there.

Most of the good clubs are concentrated in the area around Fanueil Hall, especially on Broad Street, where you'll find The Office and The Place (arguably Boston's third most-popular watering hole next to Jillians and the Rack). They call it "Broad Street" because this is where guys like to go to pick up their broads. =) joke

Those nightclubs are the best in terms of popularity and music, but as far as meeting people, there's other places to go besides the nightclubs.

Harvard Square is a great place for nightlife. It's much more low-key there, but there are still plenty of great restaurants and bars which seem to attract some of Beantown's most sophisticated clientele.

The South End is the heart of Boston's gay culture. Unless your name is Richard Simmons you'll want to steer clear of this area.

In the North Station area there's not really much. Hanover Street in the North End is famous for its wide array of Italian restaurants, and you'll find Hooters on Friend Street (only a couple of blocks from the TD Banknorth Garden) as well as a number of other hotspots on Canal Street, which is the next block over. But compared with the Financial District, this area can be relatively tame, except on a Friday or Saturday night when there happens to be a Celtics or Bruins game.

There is a bi-weekly magazine called the "Improper Bostonian" which is basically an A-Z guide on Boston's nightlife; it gives a listing of every single bar and club in the city as well as information such as cover prices and any special events or guests scheduled to take place there, as well as age-specific data. This magazine is free at newsstands within the city limits (elsewhere it costs $2.50 and it is not available outside of Massachusetts). Try going to their website to request that a copy be sent to you. (http://www.improper.com)
