Ok here's what I wore. It depends on the time of year. But I just came back and wore comfortable shoe boots. My last trip I only brought flip flops and that's all I wore.
That is because if you are in villages where the animals go to the bathroom all over the street you want to be able to wash your shoes off. Also you will definitely need flip flops to take a shower in Egypt unless you are in a 5 star hotel. Just make sure you have something comfortable on your feet so you can walk fast and far. P.S. I had flip flops on when I rode the camel. Also remember that when you go in someone's house you will be taking your shoes off and be sure not to point the soles of your feet at anyone. It's offensive.

I was there for 3 weeks this summer. Flip Flops are good for the beach or if you do a Nile Cruise. For any excursions or in the cities good sturdy sandals (w/ a strap) work great. I even climbed Mt. Sinai with them. You don't really need sneakers at all, and to be honest, it's much more comfortable with sandals on because of the heat. But your feet will get dirty.

When you're in the desert, sandals are better than shoes or sneakers because the sand doesn't get trapped inside them. And you can easily wash it off rather than trying to get sand out of the crevaces of sneakers.

Of course, if you do plan on going to nice restaurants or clubs make sure to bring a pair of dress shoes.

The streets of Cairo tend to be dirty, so I would bring older, comfortable shoes. Flip-flops are a bit impractical for everyday use. And there's no sand around the center of Cairo, silly! Have a fun trip!

Egypt isn't all desert. It has regular streets like everywhere else. You can wear anything starting from flipflops to high heels. Just make sure to wear comfy shoes if u are planning to walk alot.
